Who We Are
Ashland Scales began in 1975 as a branch office of ABSCO Scales when Fred Gottfried moved his family to Ashland as a resident technician. The roots and tradition of ABSCO go back to the 1930s when it was founded by George Ankney in Columbus, Ohio, and for many years it was known and respected as one of the largest scale service companies in Ohio.
In 1989, Fred purchased the office in Ashland, which had grown to 8 employees, from ABSCO and incorporated as Ashland Scale Company. It has since grown to over 20 employees in 6 cities in northern Ohio. In 2000 we built a new office and service facility in Ashland, including a climate controlled test lab to meet the increasing requirements of the ISO & TS quality programs we provide.
To meet our customers' needs, we have grown from offering just scales to a full line of equipment to handle any weighing application. With scales ranging from laboratory balances to platforms, hoppers, conveyors, and vehicle scales, we can weigh anything. This weight can then be used to print a ticket or label, control conveyors or mixers, or interface to a computer to print reports, track inventory, or bill product. We offer foundation construction, installation, custom built scales, custom control panels and software, computer networking, and many other services to complete your project.
Service
Our priority, from day one, has been to provide quality service to our customers. To back up this statement, we have consistently been a leader in innovative programs to enhance our capabilities. In the 1970s, we were among the first to have all of our standards certified traceable to NIST and developed computer generated service scheduling on an early PC. In the 1980s, we were the first to install cell phones in our service vehicles for fast response. Since 2000 we've become an ISO/IEC Guide 17025 accredited calibration lab. We have the only nationally recognized Certified Weighing Salespersons and Certified Weighing Technician in Ohio. These individuals passed rigorous testing by the International Society of Weighing and Measurement on NIST regulations, product knowledge, and technical knowledge. They are among a select few nationally who have passed the test and have been recognized by their peers as experts in the profession. They pass this knowledge on through our in house training program.
All of our service technicians must complete an 8 course training program which includes hands on trouble shooting and testing, calibration procedures, and ISO documentation requirements. They then must pass the Ohio Department of Agriculture, Division of Weights and Measures technician licensing test and complete one year of apprenticeship before they are sent alone to service your scales. This ensures that you are getting an experienced, prepared technician every time.
Our service vehicles carry not only NIST certified standards, but also tools and parts inventory to service your equipment completely the first time. Our service shop has a $100,000 inventory of new parts as well as loaner equipment to keep your business running.
Our lines are answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with technicians on call to respond to your emergency service needs. We know that if we can satisfy your service requirements you will look to us for your other weighing needs.
